Weeknotes for 2024-W39
Published
Technically, last week is when fall was Official™ but I’m really starting to notice it now. Crunchy leaves and the trees are starting to turn. It’s also turbo weather and time to make chili & bread.
Reading
The “Wordpress drama” has been poppin’ off across my feed. I’m curious to see what the fallout ends up being.
I should be getting my copy of Approachable Open Source very soon1 and am looking forward to reading it.
Writing
Behind the scenes I’ve been working on a writeup for InsightFest. More words than normal and I want to include a decent amount of photos too.
For non-prose I’ve been mostly writing JavaScript this week. My jam.
Listening
Kinda a weird category, but felt on brand for this week. Had lots of seat time in the car driving so listened to a bunch of podcasts, mostly Car Talk reruns but also the first episode of The Pragmatic Engineer Podcast which had Simon Willison on as a guest and was a great time.
I saw La Dispute live on Saturday and it was great. They’re one of my favorite artists—I think this is the 3rd time I’ve seen ’em live?
Doing
More of the same: work work (no full-time locked in as of yet) plus continually fixing up the Insight. I attended the Web Performance Fundamentals, v2 workshop in-person at Frontend Masters and it was a great use of time. Caught up with all latest Core Web Vitals updates, got to talk all about the web, and Todd is a great teacher so it’s a solid 10/10 for me. You can view my notes if that’s your cup of tea: https://github.com/Pinjasaur/frontend-masters-workshops/blob/master/2024-09-26-fund-web-perf-v2.md
I have tentative plans to meet with Brian, the author, for our annual coffee shop meetup later this week.↩︎
I love hearing from readers so please feel free to reach out.
